Restrictions In Jammu And Kashmir Ease, Netizen Wish Each Other Through Social Media

Mumbai: Jammu and Kashmir were in a complete lockdown after the government imposed article 144, that put restrictions on the movement of the people. All the communication mediums including the internet were snapped off and the region was in a complete communication black out. The internet services, however, were restored on Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir, but the data speed was kept limited to 2G.

“The mobile internet service was restored during midnight but with 2G speed,” said an official.

He further added that the internet has been restored with low bandwidth as a preventive measure and to check if any objectionable content circulated on social media. In the past few days rumours about Muslim police killing CRPF personnel and India sending armed helicopters to attack the Kashmiris were circulated in India. The communication restrictions didn’t let these propagandas to enter in J&K.

“The decision to suspend mobile internet service was taken by the government only to prevent such elements, who play spoilsport and create tension in the society… the services have been restored partially and will soon be restored with high speed” the official said.

The mobile services were snapped on August 4th at midnight, hours before the Indian Government declared the abrogation of article 370. After the abrogation the state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories, one is the Jammu and Kashmir UT and the other Ladakh UT. The district administration, according to the reports have been administering the social media activity, in a way to find if anyone was spreading objectionable content.

The restrictions are said to be eased in Rajouri district during day time but will remain under the force of section 144 of CRPC between 2100 hrs to 0500hrs, said an official.

While netizens from another part of are observed wishing each other through Whatsapp or Facebook as if there were festivities in the region. But some parts of the state still remain uneased by the communication/mobile internet restrictions as the administration sensed trouble in those areas.
