Russia, Ukraine Agree On Day-Long Evacuation Corridors

Mumbai: A Ukrainian official has said that Russia and Ukraine have agreed on day-long evacuation corridors to help civilians escape the war. Thousands are thought to have died or been wounded amid the biggest attack on a European state since World War II.

Vereshchuk said that Moscow had vowed to respect the ceasefire from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Areas heavily affected by the fighting, including regions around, Zaporizhzhia in the south, and some parts of Ukraine’s northeast.

Citizens from the areas around the capital, including Irpin and Bucha in the northwest, will be sent to Kyiv to escape fierce bombardment by Russian forces. Citizens are facing shelling and aerial bombardment to escape a group of towns on the north-western edge of Kyiv, which is largely occupied by Russian forces.

On Sunday, four people were killed in an explosion on foot in Kyiv. Kirill Timoshenko of Ukraine’s presidential office told local media that about 60 buses in two convoys on Tuesday were able to evacuate civilians from Sumy, 350 kilometres (220 miles) east of Kyiv.

More than 5,000 people were evacuated from the city of Sumi, which has a population of 250,000, which is close to the Russian border and the scene of heavy fighting.

The UN refugee agency has estimated the total number of refugees at 2.1 to 2.2 million.
