Schools In 2 Andhra Districts Shut, 65 Trains Cancelled Over Cyclone Jawad

After Yaas in May and Gulab in September, this will be the third cyclone headed towards the east coast this year

Mumbai: In the wake of the cyclone Jawaad expected to skirt the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha on Saturday (December 4) morning, the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh has cancelled around 65 ongoing trains.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division of East Coast Railway, A K Tripathi informed ANI, around 65 ongoing trains were cancelled from the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh for Dec 3 & 4.

Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam District Collector, Mallikarjuna has said that all schools across the Visakhapatnam & Srikakulam districts will be closed from noon today & tomorrow.

The deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into Cyclone Jawad in the next 6 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. After Yaas in May and Gulab in September, this will be the third cyclone headed towards the east coast this year.

To counter the cyclone in Odisha, the state government plans to deploy 266 teams including NDRF, State Fire Services and ODRAF in coastal districts in view of impending cyclonic Situation, informs Pradeep Kumar Jena, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) in a press release.

Informing about the preparedness for Cyclone Jawaad, the press release said, “The State Government is well prepared to deal the emerging situation 14 coastal districts have been put on alert and asked to take all necessary steps in view of impending cyclonic storm.”

On Friday, the weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Andhra and Odisha, while an orange alert has been issued and Bengal. 24 hours with a maximum sustained wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph to prevail in the region.

The rainfall intensity will reduce and shift towards the northeast regions, from December 6, predicted IMD.
