Virat Kohli Ranked Second Most Searched Personality After Prime Minister Modi In Yahoo’s List
MS Dhoni and Neeraj Chopra also made it to the top-20 of Yahoo's 2021 Year in Review
Mumbai: According to Yahoo’s 2021 Year in Review for India, Indian and ODI captain Virat Kohli was named as the second-most searched personality after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
With a massive fan base on social media, Kohli was the most searched sports personality followed by former Indian captain MS Dhoni and star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.
In 2021, Kohli made two big announcements, first to step down as India’s T20I captain and also step down as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper. However, Kohli continues to lead Team India in ODIs as well as Tests.
Indian team continued to scale new heights under Kohli’s captaincy as the team reached the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) and also produced a stellar show against England away from home. Kohli might not have been able to score a century in 2021 but he continued to lead the team from the front and was also one of the most consistent performers for the team across the three formats.
Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, was ranked sixth on the list & remains to be one of the most inspirational figures in the world of cricket. Dhoni was roped in as Team India’s mentor for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
It was under Dhoni’s leadership that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bagged another IPL title in 2021. Ahead of the 15th edition of IPL in 2022, Dhoni was retained by CSK to will lead the franchise.
With a historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Neeraj Chopra is the only non-cricket sports personality on the list at 19th position. Chopra has been one of the most in-demand sports personalities in India ever since he bagged a gold medal in the javelin’s men’s throw final in Tokyo.
With a brief slip last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reclaimed the title of India’s Most Searched Personality, a position he has held consistently since 2017. Last year the top spot was taken by late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
