Shabana Azmi Injured As Car Rams Into Truck; Javed Akhtar Unhurt
Mumbai: Veteran actor Shabana Azmi was seriously injured in an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Express in Raigad district of Maharashtra this afternoon.
News agency ANI reported that her husband Javed Akhtar was also in the car, but he was not hurt.
The accident occurred around 3:30 pm near Khalapur, about 60 km from Mumbai when the 69-year-old actor was travelling in a Tata Safari SUV, when a truck hit him from behind.
Photos of the incident show that Shabana Azmi was helped out of the rear seats of the SUV, her face and eyes swollen.

The effect was that the front passenger side of the SUV was completely destroyed. One photo shows the car’s bonnet broken and the radiator and bonnet wiped out.
News agency PTI quoted Raigad Superintendent of Police Anil Parskar as saying that Shabana Azmi was taken to MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai and is undergoing treatment.
Highway police patrol teams have rushed to investigate the accident site, news agency IANS reported.
