Sherlyn Chopra’s lawyer had told the court that the bail plea was filed because Chopra feared that she would be arrested like the other accused, and therefore sought protection from the court before approaching the police. The lawyer said that the actress is not backing down from the investigation.

However, the government pleader told the court that they only wanted to record Sherlyn Chopra’s statement.

The FIR was registered in the porn film racket case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Information Technology Act and provisions of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Sherlyn Chopra was apprehensive that she might be implicated in the porn film racket case without knowing the true and correct facts. In her application, Chopra submitted that since some of the offences in the FIR were non-bailable, she had applied for anticipatory bail on the ground that her custody was wholly unwarranted.

Sherlyn Chopra also said that the principles of natural justice include giving her a fair and impartial opportunity to appear before the said investigating officer without prejudice and to report the entire case against her or otherwise so that she can be made out. To cooperate in the investigation process without fear of arrest.
