Singer Composer Bappi Lahiri Passes Away Aged 69

Mumbai: Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri passed away aged 69 at a hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday. The veteran singer was confined to full bed rest after testing COVID-19 positive in April last year.

Born Alokesh Lahiri, Bappi Da, as he was famous, popularized the use of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema.

Lahiri was 69 at the time of his death.
Early on February 16, news agency PTI tweeted, “Veteran singer and music composer #BappiLahiri dies in Mumbai hospital, says the doctor.”

As per reports, Bappi Lahiri died in Criticare hospital in Juhu at 3 am.

The veteran singer-musician had tested positive for COVID-19 in April last year and was confined to complete bed rest. He was also undergoing treatment for many diseases. He was hospitalized for a month and was discharged on Monday. But on Tuesday, his health deteriorated and his family called a doctor to home, after which he was brought to the hospital. Lahiri had several health problems and died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea).

After giving successful music in Bengali films Amar Sangeet, Asha O Bhalobasha, Amar Tumi, Amar Prem, Mandira, he cemented his place in Bollywood in the 1980s and 1990s with film soundtracks such as Vardat, Disco Dancer, Namak Halal, Sharabi Dance dance.

His songs for Mithun Chakraborty were well received and have remained in the collective consciousness till now.

His last onscreen appearance was with Salman Khan on Bigg Boss 15, where he had come to promote the launch of his grandson Swastik’s new song, Baccha Party.
