Six Districts In Punjab Have No Active Coronavirus Cases

Mumbai: According to government data, six out of 22 districts of Punjab have no active coronavirus cases on Saturday.

The districts are SBS Nagar, Moga, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Barnala, and Gurdaspur. Government data shows that there were a total of 31 patients in the districts, of which 27 died, while four died.

SBS Nagar was a hotspot of coronovirus with 19 patients. Eighteen of them have been recovered and one has died.

As of Friday, out of the total 298 cases detected in the state, 69 percent of cases were reported from Mohali, Jalandhar, Patiala, and Pathankot.

Four out of 17 deaths occurred in Ludhiana in the state, while Jalandhar, Mohali, and Amritsar had two each.

The data said that within a fortnight from April 10, the number of coronavirus cases in the state has almost doubled.

There were 151 COVID-19 cases in Punjab on 10 April and the number increased to 298 on 24 April.

As per the data, the state tested 558, 532, 870, 693, and 1,161 samples on April 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 April respectively.

The state has the capacity to test 1,274 samples daily. According to the report, government medical colleges in Amritsar and Patiala can test 400 samples each, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Faridkot 250, PGIMER Chandigarh 60, Institute of Microbial Technology 24, DMC Ludhiana 40 and Tuli Lab 100.

The state has a test rate of 358 per million, lower than the national average of 417 per million.
