Tamil Nadu Torrential Rains: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Today, Heavy Rainfall For The Next Days

Besides Tamil Nadu, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall over other Southern states for the next 5 days

Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu over the next couple of days.

The IMD issued a yellow alert for November 23, 24 and an orange alert for November 25, 26 in the state.

The weather department further said, “A cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast during next 4-5 days.”

Besides Tamil Nadu, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall over other Southern states of Karnataka, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Puducherry during the next 5 days.

IMD further said, “Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during next 5 days and over Kerala and Mahe on November 25 and 26. Isolated very heavy rainfall also very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 25 and 26.”

Two Central teams, yesterday, comprising a total of seven officials inspected several regions of Tamil Nadu to assess the damage caused by the recent torrential rains and flooding in the state.

Following discussions on Sunday with top-level officials at the Greater Chennai Corporation, a four-member team led by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Rajiv Sharma, inspected the damage to civic infrastructure in several areas.
