TN increases Aid To ₹10L For Kin Of Journalists Who Died Due To COVID-19

Mumbai: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin increased the compensation given to the families of journalists, who died due to COVID-19, from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister has also hiked the incentive sum given to journalists who have been reporting on the pandemic from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.

Stalin said in a statement, “Journalists are playing an important role in making important news and information accessible to the public and creating awareness despite the obstacles during the epidemic.”

“They are acting as a bridge between the government and the people. So to encourage them all registered journalists and photographers/videographers working with print, television and magazine across the district (the government has at least one of the following registrations such as a government registration card / free bus pass from the district collector / ID) card) will receive an increased incentive amount,” he said.

Earlier, many journalist organizations demanded the Tamil Nadu government to increase the incentives and compensation given to them, as they are working despite the pandemic.

After this, the Chief Minister said, “The previous government had given an incentive amount of Rs 3,000. However, after consulting the journalists, the Tamil Nadu government is increasing the incentive amount from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000. ”

“The previous government also issued a government order to provide Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the relatives of a journalist due to COVID-19. Compensation will be increased to Rs 10 lakh after the demands of journalists.

The Chief Minister also requested journalists from print and television media to perform their work by maintaining safety during the pandemic.
