Total Lockdown In Pune Not Necessary Right Now: Mayor Murlidhar

Mumbai: Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol on Tuesday said that there is no need to impose a complete lockdown in the city as of yet despite the spike in COVID-19 cases there.

However, the Mayor said they have increased screening and testing to contain the fresh surge.

Speaking to ANI, Mohol said, “We have created micro-contribution zones, increased screening and testing. I don’t think it is necessary to have a full lockdown right now.”

Amid the rising cases of COVID-19 cases in the Pune district, Maharashtra, a huge increase has been reported in its daily COVID -19 count in the Pune district on Tuesday as the infection is over 3,500 points. According to the Health Bulletin, the Pune district reported 3,574 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its total case count to 4,10,347.

The death toll in the district reached 9,440 with 12 more fatalities. The Mayor has informed us that for now there are 84 COVID-19 vaccination centres here.

Meanwhile, India recorded the highest number of total Coronavirus cases this year, with a total of 1,14,38,734 from the total COVID-19 tally on Wednesday with 28,903 new infections.

The death toll rose to 1,59,044 with 188 new deaths, the highest in nearly two months, it was updated at 8 am.
