Tripura Govt Extends COVID Curfew In 6 Urban Local Bodies Till June 18

Mumbai: To prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, the Tripura government has decided to extend the corona curfew till June 18 in six urban local bodies of the state, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The state government has also decided to relax restrictions in 14 other urban bodies, Tripura Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Thursday. The COVID19 curfew was first imposed in Agartala Municipality on 16 May, currently in force in all urban bodies with night curfew in villages till Friday morning.

The Minister of State further announced that the curfew restrictions have been completely withdrawn from the rural areas.

The state government has taken this decision after a meeting of the Council of Ministers. Reports from health experts and health department have shown that the positivity rate in these urban bodies is more than 5 per cent.

“Day and night curfew would continue in six urban local bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation, Kumarghat Municipal Council, Dharmanagar Municipal Council, Belonia Municipal Council along with Ranirbazaar and Sonamura Nagar panchayats from tomorrow till June 18”, Nath said.

With 625 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases in Tripura has risen to 56,794, the state health department said on Thursday.

He said 14 fresh deaths, the highest single-day spike, took the state’s coronavirus death toll to 588. There are now 5,400 active COVID-19 cases in the state, he said.

Here’s what’s allowed and what’s not:

  1. Restriction on inter-district movement was withdrawn.
  2. Shops and markets would remain open in restricted areas from 6 am till 2 pm during this period.
  3. Beauty parlours, salons, malls, gymnasiums, movie halls would continue to remain closed.
  4. Gatherings for political, educational, entertainment, religious, cultural or festival-related events are not permitted.
