US Returnee Tests +ve For Omicron, Had Received 3 Doses Of Pfizer Vaccine: BMC

Mumbai: A 29-year-old man, who had returned from US’ New York, tested positive for the Omicron variant of coronavirus on Friday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated in a release.

Elaborating on the particular Omicron case, the Mumbai civic body said that on November 9, a 29-year-old man was tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) at the city airport. His results, which later came back positive and after his samples were sent for genome sequencing, confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant.

The man had taken three doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which was sold in the United States under the brand name Comirnati. However, he was asymptomatic and the presence of Omicron was confirmed only after the test, the BMC release said.

Soon after the person tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai, he was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure. According to the official statement, the civic authorities also started contact tracing, but two of his “high-risk contacts” tested negative for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, with the recently reported Covid-19 cases in Mumbai, the updated number of omicron patients in the country’s financial capital has gone up to 14, with five from outside Mumbai.

However, it is to be noted that 13 of these patients have already been discharged from hospitals. In fact, none of the 14 omicron patients detected in the city so far has reported any serious symptoms of the infectious disease, the BMC said in its release. It added that the cumulative statewide number of omicron patients in Maharashtra has reached 40.
