Uttarakhand Elections: Congress Promises 40% Quota For Women In State Police Force

Mumbai: Congress’s national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday released the party’s manifesto for the upcoming Uttarakhand assembly elections, including 40% jobs for women in the police department, providing jobs to 400,000 people and limiting the price of cooking gas cylinders to Rs 500.

Priyanka released the manifesto at a virtual rally titled ‘Uttarakhand Swabhiman Pratigya Patra’, which was live-streamed in all 70 constituencies. The manifesto promised to give priority to women in 40% of government jobs and the creation of a ‘tourism police’ force. The party also promised a 150 per cent increase in the salaries of Anganwadi workers in the state.

Congress promised to cap the price of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder to Rs 500, with the government contributing its share and bearing the burden of the people.

Free travel for women in state transport, filling 57,000 vacancies in various government departments within a year of coming to power, among other promises in the Congress manifesto.

It also promised to set up the state’s “first sports university” and withdraw cases filed against farmers protesting the now-repealed agricultural laws. The party also promised a comprehensive educational framework with increased budget allocation. Congress also promised to “modernize sugar mills and improve the payment system to sugarcane farmers”.

The manifesto was released in the presence of the former chief minister and party national general secretary Harish Rawat, party state chief Ganesh Godiyal, leader of Opposition in state assembly Pritam Singh and party’s state unit in-charge Devendra Yadav.

Voting for the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly will be held on February 14. The results will be declared on March 10.
