WHO Regional Director Congratulates India For Administering Over 1 Billion COVID Vaccine Doses

Mumbai: World Health Organization South-East Asia Regional Director Poonam Khetrapal Singh on Thursday called India’s historic achievement of 100 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, doses, hailing our “strong political leadership” and dedicated healthcare workforce for standing tall in this fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This extraordinary achievement of delivering one billion doses would not have been possible without a strong political leadership, mutual convergence, holistic health and dedicated efforts of the frontline workforce and the people themselves,” Singh said.

“Huge congratulations to India for marking yet another milestone – a billion Covid-19 vaccine doses administered. India’s progress must be viewed in the context of the country’s commendable commitment and efforts to ensure these life-saving vaccines are accessible globally,” she said.

Nine months after India launched a mega-inoculation drive and six months after a devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic engulfed the country and decimated the health system.

Congratulating all the citizens of the country for this achievement, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this achievement.

“Congratulations India! This is the result of the able leadership of visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi. #VaccineCentury,” Mandaviya said in a Hindi post on social media platform Twitter.
