Will Take Less Time To Reduce Air Pollution In Delhi Than China Did In Beijing: Javadekar

Mumbai: It took Beijing fifteen years to reduce air pollution but we will take less time to improve air quality in the national capital, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said in Lok Sabha on Friday.

“There is only one Earth and resources are depleting. There is a difference between climate change and air pollution. Excessive emission of carbon dioxide is the reason behind climate change and these continue to remain in the atmosphere for many years. Pollutants of pollution remain for a short time and then disappear,” he said in Lok Sabha.

On speaking on climate change he added that “I have a firm belief that Beijing took 15 years to reduce air pollution then we will do it in lesser time.”

The issue of pollution including air, water and plastic was taken up for discussion in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, the issue was debated intensely in both houses of Parliament.

The pollution in Delhi NCR is still in the severe category and the reasons behind this were the stubble burning, vehicular emission, industrial discharge and etc. To reduce the pollution level government had said that the funds were raised for the National Clean Air Programme.

The government had provided 3,28,000 electric vehicles. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Air Quality Index in 2015 and devices for measuring have been installed at 730 places in 344 cities.
