Woman Forces Daughter To Quit Studies, Work At Navi Mumbai Bar; Booked

Mumbai: Police have booked a woman and her live-in partner for forcing the woman’s 17-year-old daughter to quit her studies and work at a beer bar to support the family in Navi Mumbai.

New Panvel Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Giri said that based on the complaint of the 17-year-old girl, the police had registered an FIR against the woman and her live-in partner on March 15.

The officer said the girl has claimed in her complaint that her mother and her live-in partner had forced her to drop out of studies and work in a beer bar to support the family. Tired of their constant harassment, the girl ran away from home last month and was later traced, but refused to live with her mother, they said.

He said the minor was shifted to the children’s shelter home in Kharghar, where he narrated the ordeal to them.

A case has been registered under IPC section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, the official said.
