Mumbai: A 13-year-old girl allegedly attempted suicide after she was molested by a 55-year-old teacher at her school in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore.
When the girl complained to her parents, they reportedly told her that the teacher wouldn’t have done so with a “bad intention” as he was old enough to be her grandfather. According to a report in the Times of India, the girl is currently undergoing treatment and her condition is also said to be stable.
The Class 7 girl took this step after her parents refused to complain that the teacher was touching her inappropriately. Her parents also reportedly said that the teacher was old enough to be her grandfather, so she might not have done it with bad intentions.
However, Pallikonda Inspector and Investigating Officer M Subbulakshmi, who had taken the statement from the girl, said, the teacher was touching her inappropriately several times in the past, even after the girl asked her not to do so.
Later, she informed the parents but since they did not take the issue seriously, she decided to end her life.
Police said he attempted suicide on Saturday when no one was in the house and his parents found him unconscious.
Thereafter, they took her to the hospital and then lodged a complaint at the Thiruvalam police station.
