1st Step Towards Gender Equality: Army Chief Naravane On Woman Cadets in NDA

General MM Naravane emphasized that women will hold more challenging assignments in the armed forces

Mumbai: At the Passing out parade of the 141st Course of NDA in Pune,  Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane on Friday called for acceptance and professionalism for women cadets into the National Defence Academy (NDA).

“As we open portals of NDA to women cadets, I expect you all to welcome them with the same sense of fair play & professionalism as Indian armed forces are known for the world over,” said Army Chief in Pune.

The Chief added, “As we go ahead, we shall be inducting women cadets into NDA (in Pune) & I’m sure they’ll perform as well as the men cadets. It’s just the 1st step towards gender equality & Army has always been at forefront of all such initiatives that have taken place in the country.”

General MM Naravane emphasized that women will hold more challenging assignments in the armed forces and that they already have women officers training academies in Chennai.

“As a result, they’ll also get empowered to hold more challenging assignments in Indian armed forces. It’s not that we don’t have women officers already undergoing training. We have women cadets at Officers Training Academy, Chennai where they’re doing exceedingly well,” Army Chief.

Naravane underlined the fact that training at the NDA has changed over the due course of time with the changing situations. He added that they have better trained and better equipped to meet the challenges.

“NDA was always the most premier institution of Indian armed forces but over the years as we’ve grown & matured, the curriculum changed, training methodologies changed, we’ve become even more well trained & better equipped to meet whatever challenges they might be in future,” added Army Chief at NDA in Pune.

Earlier this year in August, the centre had allowed women to attempt National Defense Academy (NDA) exams.
