2 Killed, Several Injured After Blast In Punjab’s Ludhiana Court

Former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh said the Punjab Police must get to the bottom of the case.

Mumbai: Two people were killed in an explosion in District Court Complex in Ludhiana, Punjab on Thursday. Several people were injured in the explosion.

An advocate said the blast occurred inside the public washroom on the second floor at around 12.22 pm.

There are eight courtrooms on the second floor of the building, but due to the uproar on Thursday, there were not many people present, the police have cordoned off the area and the court premises are being evacuated. One of the injured has been identified as Advocate RS Mand.

According to reports, the lawyers were on strike and hence the number of lawyers present in the premises on Thursday was less than any other day. It is not yet known whether the blast was caused by a cylinder as there is also a court canteen on the second floor. But since the blast took place inside the washroom, it could not be said that the cylinder exploded.

“I am going to Ludhiana. Some anti-national elements are doing such acts as Assembly elections are nearing. The government is on alert. Those found guilty will not be spared,” chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi said.

Former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh said the Punjab Police must get to the bottom of the case.

“Disturbing news of a blast at Ludhiana court complex. Saddened to know about the demise of two individuals. Praying for the recovery of those injured. Punjab Police must get to the bottom of this,” Amarinder Singh tweeted.
