20-Yr-Old B’luru Woman Marries 17-Yr-Old Boy She Met On Facebook, Booked

Bengaluru: A 20-year-old woman from Bengaluru was booked under the Child Marriage Act after she allegedly married a 17-year-old boy she met on Facebook.

According to the police, the accused woman is a student of B.Sc Nursing. She met a 17-year-old boy from a village in Chikkamagaluru district through Facebook. She decided to marry her against the wishes of his family.

Police said the teenage boy claimed that he was 21 years old and tied the knot with the woman on June 16 at a temple. He told that the marriage took place in the presence of the girl’s family members.

As soon as the news of the marriage spread, a local resident informed the child helpline, after which the women and child welfare department officials reached the village for questioning.

According to a report published by the Times of India, later, the police were informed and a case was registered against the relatives of the woman and the teenager, who were present at the temple at the time of their marriage.

“They [the relatives of the boy] have also been booked under the Child Marriage Restraint Act and the couple is living separately,” the TOI report said.

Gujarat Police had arrested a 23-year-old woman for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy.

Police said the minor boy had gone missing from Anand on May 25. His family members started looking for him and after failing to find him, they lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case of kidnapping against the unknown and started an investigation.

A fortnight later, the minor boy was rescued from Surat. The police said the woman abducted the minor and took him to Surat under the pretext of marrying him. Inquiries revealed that after abducting the boy, she had sexually assaulted him.
