27 Students Of Private School In Tamil Nadu Test Positive For COVID-19

Mumbai: As many as 27 students of a private school in Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district have tested positive for COVID-19, the state’s Health Department has said.

State health department officials said 374 swab samples were tested, out of which 27 tested positive.

The school decided to conduct swab tests on the students after the school admitted two Class 10 students with COVID-19-like symptoms to a hospital and later to a government hospital in Dharapuram with COVID-19.

School officials said barring two students who tested positive, the remaining 25 students were asymptomatic and had been put under home isolation. According to the health department, the private school will remain closed for a week for disinfection.

The department also said that it will regularly monitor both government and private schools to see if they are following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on COVID-19.

Tamil Nadu Education Department officials said they are conducting awareness programs for parents about vaccination and safety protocols.
