35-Yr-Old Woman Stripped And Assaulted Publicly On Camera In Karnataka; 9 Booked
Mumbai: A 35-year-old tribal woman was allegedly stripped and assaulted by a group of people in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. The incident took place over a land dispute on April 19 and came to light when a video showing the mob stripping the woman as dozens looked on going viral.
A case has been registered against all the accused. Nine people were booked based on a complaint by a 35-year-old woman, who alleged that the gang tore her clothes, made her semi-naked and shot a video of the incident.
The woman said in the complaint that her elder sister and mother were also assaulted. The accused have been identified as Sandeep (30), Santosh (29), Gulabi (55), Suguna (30), Kusuma (38), Loke (55), Anil (35), Lalita (40) and Chenna Keshava (40), all belonging to the victim’s village, police said.
The report said the incident took place when a team of revenue department officials reached the village to measure the government land where the complainant and her elder sister were staying as per an application given by the woman to the authorities.
Sources said that the accused protested the work being done by the officials and created a ruckus after which the surveyor left the spot, after which the nine-member gang assaulted the woman. Belthangady police are probing the matter.
