3rd COVID Wave May Peak In Oct, Paediatric Facilities Nowhere Close: MHA panel

Mumbai: In a recent report, the National Institute of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has said that IIT Kanpur predicted the third COVID-19 wave may peak between September and October.

In its report to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the NIDM has sought better preparedness, including ‘pediatric facilities’, in case a large number of children become infected, a report in the Times of India said.

The panel reportedly noted that the existing infrastructure in the country was “no nowhere close” to the one needed.

As reported by TOI, the NIDM report submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office also states that priority should be given to immunization of children with disabilities with existing diseases.

Among other recommendations, the panel also suggested that “a holistic home care model, urgently increasing pediatric medical capabilities, and prioritizing mental health issues among children is needed.”

Echoing similar remarks, AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria has asked people to continue following Covid appropriate behaviour to avoid any possible spike in the daily caseload.

“Avoid stepping out of the house unless absolutely necessary. Whenever you step out of the house, wear a mask. Keep washing your hands with soap. After touching anything, definitely use sanitiser. Health is important now”, said AIIMS, Delhi, Director, Dr Randeep Guleria as the festive season is approaching.
