5 People Booked On Charges Of Gang-Rape, Extortion In Punjab

Mumbai: Five people have been booked by police on the charges of gang rape and extortion in Punjab.

The charges come after a woman was reportedly gang-raped on February 16 after being taken to a deserted place at gunpoint by five people, who came in a car.

According to the report published in The Tribune India, SHO Jatinder Kumar said that the complainant had gone to Mirzapur with her son on February 16 to take medicine, when Banarasi Devi, Rajowal, Sumba, Saroj, Ranja, Sonu came in a car and forced them to take her to a deserted place at gunpoint and gangraped her brutally.

Police said the five accused have been charged with gang rape and extortion under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and will be produced before a magistrate within the next 24 hours, the victim has been sent for medical examination, said police.
