50% People In Mumbai Have Taken 1st Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine: BMC

Mumbai: According to the BMC, 50% of people of the age group eligible for vaccination have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

There are around 45 lakh people aged 18 years and above who’ve taken their first dose, while 11.5 lakh people have taken their second dose, BMC said.

According to the BMC, there are around 90 lakh people in the age group of 18 years and above (the age group eligible for vaccination).

According to BMC, this number would have increased if there was no interruption in supply. According to BMC, the corporation has the capacity to vaccinate 1-1.5 lakh people daily.

But despite being able to vaccinate more people, due to their short supply, the BMC vaccinates around 70,000 people per day on average.

Today about 50% of the government immunization centers in the city are not functioning due to a lack of supplies. Additional Municipal Commissioner, Suresh Kakani told Mirror Now, “We are expecting to supply around 1-1.5 lakh doses by this evening. If we do an average of 70,000 vaccinations per day, it is going to last for two days.”

According to the BMC, he had received 7.5 lakh doses last month. BMC expects supplies to pick up this month. However, the supply chain will remain the same.

The corporation will get supplies two to three times a week, 1-1.5 lakh in each supply. So according to BMC, this shortage of supplies will hinder their aggressive vaccination campaign as the vaccination target will be met much earlier than expected if the supply remains uninterrupted.
