64-Km-Long Russian Convoy Nears Ukraine’s Kyiv, Pics Surface

Mumbai: Satellite pictures showing a Russian military convoy stretching for around 64 km nearing the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv have surfaced online. The convoy is substantially longer than the 27 km reported earlier, Maxar Technologies said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian intelligence has suggested that Belarus is showing readiness to “probably participate directly” in an invasion of Russia, ” in addition to allowing Russians to use their territory as well as letting them cross the border” into Ukraine.

According to satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies, the massive convoy of armoured vehicles, tanks, artillery and auxiliary vehicles was 17 miles (25 km) from the centre of Kyiv.

The convoy has been gathering since Sunday and now covers the entire stretch of road – about 29 km from the capital, to the city of Pribirsk – about 64 km – near the Antonov airport. Where vehicles were kept quite far apart in some areas, military equipment and units are travelling on the road between two or three vehicles.

Several houses and other buildings were seen burning on the roads where the convoy was going.

The photographs also showed the deployment of ground forces and ground attack helicopter units in southern Belarus.

While Ukraine and Russia resumed talks on Monday, President Volodymyr Zelensky argues that Ukraine’s intense shelling is an attempt to force his government to make concessions. Though no details about the hours-long talks have been made public, representatives of the two countries are expected to meet again in the near future. He said the capital of Kyiv remains a “major target” for Russia.

With Kyiv’s outgunned but determined troops slowing down Russia’s advance, the capital city so far remains in Ukraine’s hands. According to US officials, the invasion has been more difficult than the Kremlin envisioned.
