$777 Million Contract Inked Between Israel And India

Mumbai  : A new contract has been signed by India with Israels State-owned Israel  Aerospace Industries (IAI). As per the contract, IAI will supply LRSAM Missile Systems to Indian Navy.

Bharat Electronics Ltd. is the major contractors from India to sign the deal. LRSAM is an 8 Barak family Missile Systems used by Israel as well as Indian Navy, air and land forces.

Earlier, the sales of the 8 Barak Missile Systems were of total $6 billion as per IAI.

“IAI’s partnership with India dates many years back and has culminated in joint system development and production,” IAI chief executive officer Nimrod Sheffer said. “India is a major market for IAI and we plan to … reinforce our positioning in India, also in view of increasing competition.”

Both the country leaders are trying to strengthen the ties between both the countries. However, Israel is emerging as the biggest backbone in terms of supplying the weapons to Indian Army along with USA and Russia. These countries have been increasing cooperation in fields like agriculture and advanced technologies. 

The deal previously started almost $2 billion to supply India’s army and navy with missile defence systems. This was followed by a $630 million contract with BEL to supply Barak 8 surface-to-air missile systems for four ships in the Indian navy.

The Barak 8 was developed by IAI in collaboration with Israel’s Defence Ministry, India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation, the navies of both countries, Israel’s Rafael and local industries in India and Israel.
