EC Banned ‘PM Narendra Modi’ Biopic Release During election Period

Mumbai: The Election Commission on banned the screening of biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election period, saying that any film that reduces the purpose of any political entity or person should not be displayed in electronic media.

The EC order came a day before the movie was to be released.

The Supreme Court on rejected a petition filed by a Congress worker to stop the release of the biopic, and said that there would be a “suitable” place for the prevention of the Election Commission.

Earlier this film was to be released on April 5, but it was delayed and announced on April 11.

It also said that even if the film is released on 11th April, as the Congress worker has claimed, demand for redress from the Election Commission should be appropriate for him.

The film directed by Omung Kumar and jointly produced by Suresh Oberoi, Sandip Ssingh, and Anand Pandit.

The film is based on the life of Narendra Modi, the 14th Prime Minister of India starring Vivek Oberoi in the lead role who is also credited as co-writer of the film.

The first look of the film was released in January 2019. The film will release in 23 different languages.
