Mumbai: Congress Slams BMC Over Waterlogging, Alleges Corruption

He also questioned the recent incidents of building collapses in Vikhroli and Chembur, in which 31 people died

Mumbai: The Congress on Monday attacked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which is held by the Shiv Sena, for alleged corruption and mishandling of the monsoon situation in Mumbai.

This comes at a time when there is speculation of a rift in the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP.

Speaking to ANI, Mumbai Congress President Bhai Jagtap said, “Every year BMC promises better management of water logging due to rain but failed every time. We did a survey and before the monsoon, BMC officials asked for drainage. Hundreds of crores of rupees were spent but not even 25 per cent of the work was done.”

“If the work is not completed then where has this money gone? Surely there is corruption involved at various levels in the BMC,” he alleged.

He also questioned the recent incidents of building collapses in Vikhroli and Chembur, in which 31 people died.

“One can say that those structures are in a dangerous condition. It was reported many times. No audit was done to avoid such incidents. This has to be investigated, and those who are responsible for it should be booked,” stated the Congress leader.
