SKM Welcomes PM Modi’s Decision To Repeal Farm Laws

Mumbai: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 agricultural unions, on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement to repeal three agriculture laws.

It also said that the SKM will take note of all developments and will hold its meeting soon and announce further decisions.

“Samyukt Kisan Morcha welcomes this decision and will wait for the announcement to take effect through due parliamentary procedures,” the SKM said in a statement. Also Read: Protest Won’t Be Withdrawn Immediately, Will Wait Till Parliament Repeals Farm Laws: Tikait

The farmers’ body said that if the agricultural laws are formally repealed, it will be a historic victory for the one-year farmers’ struggle in India.

“The farmers’ movement is not only against the repeal of the three black laws but also for a statutory guarantee of all agricultural products and remunerative prices for all farmers. This important demand of the farmers is still pending,” it said. Also Read: This Is Your Victory: Mamata Banerjee To Farmers On Repeal Of Farm Laws

The SKM said that the demand to withdraw the Electricity Amendment Bill is yet to come.

In his address to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Modi said three agricultural laws would be repealed in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh under the aegis of various farmers’ unions have been protesting since November 26 last year at the borders of the national capital demanding repeal of three agricultural laws.

The farmers’ body said that nearly 700 farmers have been martyred in this struggle.

“The central government’s obstinacy is responsible for these avoidable deaths, including the murders at Lakhimpur Kheri, SKM said in a statement.
