Mumbai: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav will fight the upcoming UP Assembly elections- his first- from the Karhal seat in Mainpuri district, party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said during a press conference on Saturday. “I am making a formal official announcement now. Our national president Akhilesh Yadav will contest the Karhal assembly constituency in Mainpuri, and he will win with a massive mandate,” Ramgopal Yadav said at a press conference where Akhilesh was also present. Ever since the speculation about the candidature of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the assembly elections has come to the fore, there has been talking of Akhilesh contesting the 2022 elections.

Yogi Adityanath and Akhilesh Yadav have been MPs before, but they never contested assembly elections.

When he became the Chief Minister, both of them took the path of Legislative Council to become members of the UP Legislature. Akhilesh is currently the MP from Azamgarh
