Ruling Officials Missed Timings Despite Having Watches Worth Rs 50 lakhs, BJP Leader Ashish Shelar

Nullahs surrounded by water hyacinths and mounds of silt

Mumbai: On Monday BJP leader MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar inspected the nullahs between Malad and Dahisar in the western suburbs. During this inspection, it was observed that the nullahs here were completely surrounded by water hyacinths.

He questioned the authorities saying is this new farming that is being done around the nullahs, wondering when the nullahs will be cleaned? He also criticised the ruling authorities saying that despite having expensive watches worth Rs 50 lakhs, they missed out on the timings but after we started inspecting the nullah cleanliness drive, they have finally woken up, he quipped.

The BJP, on the occasion of its 42nd Foundation Day celebration, has organised Seva Saptah where the party has decided to undertake an inspection drive of nullah cleanliness by the BMC. On Monday, the third day of the drive, the inspection was carried out at Malad, Goregaon, Borivali and Dahisar. Whether it is the nullah at Dahanukar Wadi or the Poisar River, both were surrounded by water hyacinths and the cleanliness work at many places was yet to begin. Also at some other places barely one JCB and one poclain machine were deployed to remove the garbage and the silt. Hence it is necessary to speed up the work. “If work is undertaken at this speed, when will it be completed, questioned BJP leader MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.

He was accompanied by MP Gopal Shetty, MLA Yogesh Sagar, BMC group leader Prabhakar Shinde, party leader Vinod Mishra and other local corporators and BJP office-bearers.

Talking about the progress of the work, MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar said that the cleanliness work has not gained momentum as yet. Work needs to be accelerated. There was a delay in approving the works. It was only after the BJP’s persistence that the administration finally woke up. As soon as we started the inspection drive, both the authorities and the contractors got into action. But those who were entrusted with this responsibility fled saying that their term of office had expired.

“After the BJP started with this drive, we have heard that now that the guardian minister has also announced to conduct similar drive. We are glad that the authorities have finally realised their obligation to Mumbaikars and have got into action,” criticised MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.

On being asked about the right to speak on the railway flyover issue as Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray criticised the railways for the delay in the execution of the flyover project at Lower Parel.

Reacting to this MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar said, “We are also of the opinion that this railway flyover must be done and ready at the earliest. But those who have woken up today, do they have the right to talk about this flyover? When the pedestrian bridge at Prabhadevi and Parel had collapsed, where Mumbaikars had lost their lives, we had appealed to the Central government to immediately deploy the armed forces to Mumbai. The military reached Mumbai and in record time completed the work on this pedestrian bridge. It may be recalled that during that time when the armed forces got into action in Mumbai, it was this party that had criticised this move. And hence today, they have lost the moral right to say anything in this regard,” criticised MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.
