A Pregnant Migrant Worker Delivers Baby On The Way Walking Back From Nashik To Satna MP

Mumbai: A pregnant wife and husband were walking back from Nashik in Maharashtra to Satna, MP during the nationwide lockdown when the wife delivered a child on the way.

“After she gave birth we rested for 2 hours then we walked for at least 150 km”, her husband told ANI. 

The Satna administration arranged them a bus as the couple crossed Unchehara. Both mother and baby are under medical observation and healthy.

“We got to know that the administration at the border arranged a bus for them, as they reached Unchehara we brought them here. All check-ups have been done, both mother & the baby are doing fine”, says AK Ray, Block Medical Officer of Unchehara, Satna.

Two months into the coronavirus crisis, severely involving transport links in the country’s sudden lockdown, has taken a toll on the country’s estimated 10 crore migrant workers, triggering an exodus from cities where they moved to textile factories, construction sites Have gone and worked in brick kilns.

Tens of thousands began walking back to their villages despite reassurances from officials, trekking thousands of miles in the scorching sun, on highways, and across forests. With the government announcing special trains for workers last week, there has been a renewed push by people to get home.
