Mumbai: Alia Bhatt-starrer “Gangubai Kathiawadi” directed by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali will arrive in the cinema hall this year, the makers announced on Friday.
Adapted from a chapter in the famous author Hussain Zaidi’s book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai.”
The play depicts Bhatt as Gangubai, one of the most powerful, loved and respected madams of Kamathipura during the 1960s.
In an eight-second video shared on Instagram, the filmmaker’s banner – Bhansali Productions – announced that the film will be revealed sometime this year.
The production house wrote the video in the caption, “Brave, bold and ready to be over 2021 with fire in his eyes and furious with his style #GangubaiKaithiawadi waits to rule the coming year.”
According to a source associated with the production of the film, the shooting of the film started in October last year at Film City in suburban Mumbai and is nearing completion.
“Gangubai Kathiawadi” was scheduled to hit theatres on September 11, 2020, but the coronavirus epidemic was delayed.
Bhansali is co-producing the film with producer Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited.
