Amid COVID Spike, Kerala Imposes Night Curfew From 10 pm To 6 am From August 30

Kerala: A day after imposing the lockdown on Sunday, the Kerala government imposed a night curfew on Saturday and said it would come into effect from Monday. Issuing fresh orders, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that night curfew will be imposed daily from 10 pm to 6 am.

The Chief Minister on Saturday said that his state has tested 1,67,497 samples, out of which 31,265 samples tested positive and 153 people died in the state.

Due to the sudden rise in the COVID cases, the state government on Friday imposed a lockdown in the state on Sunday. Earlier, the exemption was given for this in the last two weeks.

Notably, Kerala is witnessing over 30,000 Covid-19 cases in the last few days, with the total positivity rate (TPR) also crossing 19 per cent.

As cases began to rise, the opposition and public health experts attacked the state government’s alleged “reckless” and “foolish” decisions for the spike.

Kerala recorded 32,801 new COVID cases on Friday after testing 1,70,703 samples, taking the test positivity rate to 19.22 per cent.

Malappuram saw 4,032 new cases, followed by Thrissur with 3,953 new cases. In a related development, around 100 new Covid cases were reported from among the employees of the Kerala Assembly Secretariat and there were demands that the regular assembly committee meetings be postponed.
