Amid COVID Surge, 34-Hour Curfew In J&K From Tonight; Market, Commercial Institutions To Be Closed

Mumbai: In view of the surge in COVID-9 cases, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday announced the implementation of the 34-hour “corona curfew” across the union territory from 8 am to 6 pm.

The announcement was made by the office of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

“Complete corona curfew to be observed in the Union Territory from 8 PM, 24th April (Saturday) till 6 AM, April 26 (Monday). Essential and emergency services to be allowed. All market, commercial institutions will remain closed,” Office of J&K L-G said in a tweet.

The Traders Association of Jammu has decided to close the market over the weekend. One businessman said, “As a responsible merchant organization, we have decided to lockout over the weekend. Through this, we want to help the government.”

Meanwhile, the L-G said that it has been decided that COVID-19 vaccination for people in the age group of 18 to 45 years will be free of cost in the Union Territory, and the cost of the vaccine will be borne by the government of J&K.
