Andhra Reduces Curfew Timings By 3 Hrs In 8 Districts With Low Positivity Rate

The curfew will continue from 6 am to 6 pm in East and West Godavari districts, Krishna, Chittoor and Prakasam districts

Mumbai: Andhra Pradesh government on Monday reduced the timings for daily COVID-19 curfew by three hours in eight districts where the positivity rate is less than 5%.

Instead of the current 6 am-6 pm, curfew will now be relaxed from 6 am-9 pm in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Guntur, Nellore, Kadapa (YSR District), Anantapur and Kurnool from July 1 to July 7.

Under the new order, liquor shops, restaurants and other shops have been ordered to be closed at 9 pm. The new coronavirus exemption will be effective from July 1 to July 7.

“Curfew has been relaxed in eight districts of Andhra Pradesh where the positivity rate of COVID is less than 5 per cent,” an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said.

“This decision has been taken as the positivity rate of COVID is more than 5 per cent. After analyzing the positivity rate, a decision on relaxation in these districts will be taken,” the statement said.

The Andhra government in its order said that all restaurants and business establishments have been ordered to shut shop between 9 pm and 10 pm.

The curfew will continue from 6 am to 6 pm in East and West Godavari districts, Krishna, Chittoor and Prakasam districts.

As per the data available, till 9 am on June 27, Andhra Pradesh recorded 4,250 new Covid cases, taking the state’s tally to 1,879,872. With 33 more deaths due to the deadly contagious virus, the death toll rose to 12,599.

Andhra’s active cases have come down to 44,773. The state also recorded 5,570 fresh recoveries, taking the count to 18,22,500.

East Godavari accounts for the highest number of active cases at 8,792, Chittoor 6,804 and West Godavari 5,278.

Anantapuramu, Vizianagaram and Kurnool districts have less than 1,000 active coronavirus cases each.
