Army Helicopter Carrying Chief Of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, His Family Crashes

Mumbai: An Army helicopter carrying Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his family members and staff has crashed in Tamil Nadu.

“An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS General Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu,” the Indian Air Force said.

Reports said that a Mi-series helicopter also carrying defence officials crashed between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu.

Some media reports said that Bipin Rawat and three others were injured in the helicopter crash, while one person is missing.

A total of 14 people were on board the helicopter, including the Chief of Defense Staff, his wife, defence assistants, security commandos and Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots, the report said.
