Assam CM Appeals To People Not To Worry About CAB

Mumbai: In view of protest took place in Assam state against Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in a video appeal to the people said that they need not worry about the Citizenship Amendment Bill as their traditional culture, language, political and land rights will be protected by implementing Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

Sonowal said that some people are trying to spread misinformation to mislead people and exacerbate the situation.

He said that a committee under the chairmanship of Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma has been constituted, which has been given the task of preparing recommendations to ensure constitutional safeguards of the people of Assam.

“The committee will complete its work and will soon submit its recommendations to the Center and it will be implemented soon. I am confident that the people of Assam will get complete security,” he said.

He said, “I firmly believe that the sensible people of Assam will never believe in misinformation because they are usually peace-loving people … We condemn those who are spreading misinformation and spoil the peace of the state.”

He also requested all sections of the society to come forward and create a state of peace and tranquillity in which students can study and excel in their academic fields.

Stoning continued due to violence and large-scale protests in Assam, which were passed by Parliament, with an indefinite curfew in the city and Dibrugarh and two other districts to control the situation in two other districts.
