Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde Gets Home Ministry, NCP Finance Ministry in Maharashtra Cabinet

Thackeray is the third leader of the Shiv Sena to become Chief Minister in Maharashtra after Manohar Joshi and Narayan Rane in the late 1990s

Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Samiti (Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government) headed by Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced the cabinet of ministers on Thursday.

The Shiv Sena held the Ministries of Home and Urban Development while the NCP got the Ministries of Finance and Housing in the Government of Maharashtra. The Congress has been allocated the Ministries of Education, Energy and Revenue.

Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena will be the Home Minister. He will also handle the departments of Urban Development, Environment, PWD, Tourism and Parliamentary Works Department. Chhagan Bhujbal gets rural development, social justice, water resources, state excise from NCP.

Balasaheb Thorat of Congress was entrusted with Revenue, School Education, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and Jayant Patil was given Finance and Planning, Housing, Food Supplies and Labor from NCP.

Shiv Sena’s Subhash Desai gets the Ministries of Industry, Higher and Technical Education, Sports and Youth, Employment. Nitin Raut received PWD tribal development, OBC development, women and child development and relief and rehabilitation ministries from Congress.

The MVA was heavily criticized for delaying important official work under various ministries in Maharashtra as CM Uddhav Thackeray was allotted a ministerial post even two weeks after his swearing-in.

Thackeray is the third leader of the Shiv Sena to become Chief Minister in Maharashtra after Manohar Joshi and Narayan Rane in the late 1990s.

On 30 November, Maha Vikas Agadi won the trust vote by securing 169 votes, far exceeding the minimum required of 145 in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly.
