Bengal Extends COVID-19 Restrictions Till Aug 15, Night Curfew To Continue

Bengal: West Bengal government has extended the COVID-19 restrictions in the state till August 15. The order said government programmes may be allowed indoors with not more than 50% of the total seating capacity.

The operations of intra-state trains remain suspended, as per the order. While the statewide curb on the movement of the people and vehicles between 9 pm and 5 am continues, according to the revised guidelines issued by the West Bengal government

There will be strict restrictions on outdoor activities including movement of people and vehicles between 9 pm and 5 am, except for essential commodities including health services, law and order, agricultural products and other emergency services.

The COVID-19 lockdown in West Bengal was extended till August 15 after reviewing the current COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state, read the order issued by the State Secretariat, Nabanna. It said that the State Executive Committee of the West Bengal State Disaster Management Authority had recommended the extension of the lockdown.

The Bengal government has asked all district administrations, police commissioners and local authorities to ensure strict compliance with the above instructions. Any violation of the restriction measures would be liable to action in accordance with the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the government order warned.

The extension of restrictions comes at a time when the daily count of infection soared to 815 on Wednesday after remaining below the 700-mark for two consecutive days.
