Bengal Reports highest one-day Spike Of 20,846 COVID-19 Cases, 139 Deaths

Bengal: The Health Department said in its bulletin that West Bengal on Friday recorded its highest one-day spike in 20,846 fresh COVID-19 cases, reaching 10,94,802.

The bulletin said that the death toll rose to 12,993 after the death of 136 more people, including five eminent doctors, from the infection.

Of the 136 deaths, 67 were due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental. North 24 Parganas district accounted for 42 fatalities and Kolkata 34.

Since Thursday, at least 19,131 have been cured, taking the total number of people to recover to 9,50,017. The discharge rate is 86.78 per cent.

North 24 Parganas also recorded the highest one-day increase in 4,197 cases, while the city recorded 3,955 new infections.

Accordingly, the number of active cases increased to 1,31,792, the Bulletin said. So far 1,13,09,467 samples have been tested in the state, including 70,051 since Thursday.
