Bharat Band: Rahul Gandhi Lends Support To Farmers’ Protest; Slams Modi Government

Farmers have been protesting at various Delhi borders since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws

Mumbai: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha’s (SKM) call for a Bharat Bandh today has garnered support from all sections of the society, including political parties. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended his support to the farmers protesting and slammed the Narendra Modi government calling it ‘exploitative’. Also Read: Haven’t Sealed Anything, Just Want To Send A Message: Tikait On Bharat Bandh

In a Tweet, the congress leader said, “Farmers’ non-violent satyagraha is intact even today, but this exploitative government does not like this. That’s why there’s a ‘Bharat Band’ today.”

Extending its full support to the peaceful ‘Bharat Bandh’, Congress has asked its worker to join the strike across the country in large numbers to extend support to the agitating farmers. Also Read: Massive Traffic Jam Seen At Gurugram-Delhi Border Amid Farmers’ Bharat Bandh

While Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also has supported the bandh, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav has announced that he will participate in the nationwide strike.

The Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu governments, too, have declared complete support to the nationwide strike.

Earlier on Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab had also extended support nationwide shutdown against the new farm laws. In a joint statement, AAP Punjab affairs co-in-charge Raghav Chadha and AAP Punjab’s farmer wing chief Kultar Singh Sandhwan said the AAP leaders and volunteers would take to the streets with the farmers without the party’s flag and symbol.

Farmers have been protesting at various Delhi borders since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws. There have been several rounds of talks between the farmer leaders and the Centre but the impasse remains.
