Haven’t Sealed Anything, Just Want To Send A Message: Tikait On Bharat Bandh

Mumbai: BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said the farmers have not sealed anything and emergency vehicles are being allowed to ply on the roads during Bharat Bandh on Monday. The 10-hour strike has been called by the SKM against the three farm laws.

“Ambulances, doctors or those going for an emergency can pass through. We’ve not sealed down anything, we just want to send a message,” Rakesh Tikait, the spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU),” was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Also Read: Massive Traffic Jam Seen At Gurugram-Delhi Border Amid Farmers’ Bharat Bandh

“We appeal to the shopkeepers to keep their shops closed for now and open only after 4 pm. No farmer is coming here from outside,” Tikait added.

However, traffic between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh was affected and farmers blocked several borders. Police in Haryana and Delhi have issued a travel and traffic advisory regarding the Bharat Bandh, stating that traffic on national and state highways in the states could be disrupted for several hours. They have advised people to plan their travel and make modifications accordingly to avoid any inconvenience. Extensive arrangements have been made by the civil and police administration.

The Bharat Bandh called by the SKM, an umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions to mark the first anniversary of the enactment of three agricultural laws, began at 6 am on Monday. As per SKM’s Bharat Bandh guidelines, all government and private offices, schools, colleges and other educational institutions, shops, industries and business establishments will remain closed across the country.

All emergency establishments and essential services, including hospitals, medical stores, relief and rescue work and people attending to personal and medical emergencies, will be allowed to work. Public and private transport will not be allowed to ply on roads but emergency services, including ambulances and fire services, can function, it has said.
