Massive Traffic Jam Seen At Gurugram-Delhi Border Amid Farmers’ Bharat Bandh

Mumbai: Massive traffic jam was seen at the Gurugram-Delhi border as vehicles entering the capital were being checked by Delhi Police and paramilitary jawans due to Bharat Bandh being called by farmer organisations today reported ANI.

Hundreds of farmers sitting on railway tracks and roads gathered at various places across the country, blocking the national highways connecting Delhi with Punjab and Haryana, leading to traffic diversion and vehicular movement. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer unions, had called for a “Bharat Bandh” till 4 pm today.

Heavy police presence was observed, especially in Haryana and Punjab, to maintain law and order. With farmers blocking national highways and major link roads in both Punjab and Haryana, police have diverted traffic at several places.

Delhi Traffic Police has said that the movement of vehicles from Uttar Pradesh towards Ghazipur has been stopped. A heavy traffic jam was witnessed in Gurugram due to the heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces. The Delhi-Amritsar National Highway has been blocked at Shahabad in Haryana’s Kurukshetra.

National Highway 44 has also been blocked in Haryana. The farmers sat on the railway track at the Bahadurgarh railway station on the Tikri border. Rail operations were affected in Delhi, Ambala and Firozpur divisions as people were sitting on the tracks. More than 20 railway tracks were blocked in Delhi in protest against the farmers. According to the Northern Railway, more than 20 trains have been affected in Ambala and Ferozepur divisions.

Various opposition leaders have lent their support to the farmers’ “Bharat Bandh”. RJD leader Mukesh Raushan and other members and workers of the party protested in Bihar’s Hajipur, in support of Bharat Bandh.
