Bharat Biotech Refused To Supply Covaxin To Delhi On Centre’s Orders: Sisodia

Mumbai: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said that the vaccine suppliers have said that they can’t provide jabs to the national capital at present.

“We had demanded 1.34 crore doses, 67 lakhs each of Covaxin and Covishield. Covaxin (Bharat Biotech) wrote to us yesterday that they can’t provide. They wrote ‘We are making dispatches as per directives of concerned government officials. Obvious that these are central government officials,” Sisodia said.

“Our reserve stock of vaccine is exhausted. The centres administering Covishield vaccines are functioning but we have had to close the centres administering Covaxin. So, we have had to close down more than 100 centres across 17 schools,” he added.

Earlier, Yesterday deputy CM stated that the state government will float global tenders to procure vaccine doses.

However, he alleged that the central government was “forcing” state governments to invite global tenders for vaccines.

“They further wrote ‘We sincerely regret that we can’t make any additional supplies as required by you. I don’t know how much is being supplied to other states but they have written to us that they can’t provide to Delhi because they have to supply as per the central government,” he said today.

Meanwhile, he further said the Centre should act as the government of a country and they should carry out their responsibility and stop all exports.
