BJP-Led Government Has Given A Free Hand To Security Forces To Deal With Terrorism: G Kishan Reddy

Mumbai: The unlawful activities (prevention) amendment bill was introduced in Lok Sabha by the Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah on July 8th. The bill amends unlawful activities (prevention) Act, 1967. The act provides the government to designate individuals as terrorists.

The bill empowers the government to designate individuals as terrorists and empowers the Director-General, National Investigation Agency (NIA) to grant approval of seizure or attachment of property when the case is investigated by the agency.

Speaking with ANI Minister of State (Mos) for Home G Kishan Reddy said on Tuesday that the BJP-led government has given a free hand to security forces to deal with terrorism and as result of which there has been a significant drop in cases in the hinterland.

“In the last few years, terrorist-initiated incidents have been reduced where more terrorists have been killed in the first six months of 2019 as compared to the last year,” he said.

The minister said that the amendments in the bill will help the government deal more effectively with terrorism.

Much has been said about the misuses of the act is passed by the congress leaders. They insisted that the act should not pass as even the NDA government held a review committee the discussion over the allegations of the misuse on them.

Under the act, the investigation officer is required to seek permission from the Director-General of police to seize properties connected to terrorist activities.

The bill adds an international conference to suppress the laws of nuclear terrorism for the treaties listed in Bill’s Schedule. It also gives NIA officials the right to rank inspectors or above to investigate matters. The Act provides that cases can be investigated by the officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent or Assistant Commissioner of Police
