Centre Lied In Parliament Over Deaths Due To Oxygen Shortage: Manish Sisodia

Mumbai: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday accused the Union government of “lying” in Parliament that there were no deaths due to lack of oxygen during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Addressing a digital press conference, Sisodia said there was “complete mismanagement” of oxygen supply in the country during the second wave and blamed the Centre’s policies for the “disaster” unfolding in the country.

“The Center shamelessly and shamelessly lied to the Parliament on Tuesday. Between April 15 and May 10, there was a real oxygen crisis across the country. During this, there was complete mismanagement of oxygen by the centre, causing panic in the hospitals. The Center is now lying to hide its mistakes. It changed its oxygen distribution policy after April 13 which led to a total disaster. The Centre will have to take responsibility for this,” said Sisodia.

“Today, to reinforce that lie, BJP spokespersons held a press conference and thrashed non-BJP state governments including Arvind Kejriwal [Delhi]. Now it is recorded in history that when the country was battling the brutal second wave of COVID-19, the Center pushed the country into complete oxygen crisis due to its foolish policies… why is PM Modi lying? “he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister alleged that the Center “harassed” non-BJP ruled states by giving them oxygen from far and wide.

“When CM Kejriwal took responsibility and admitted that people indeed died due to oxygen shortage, the Centre stepped back. Kejriwal had ordered the constitution of a special committee which was to investigate every Covid-19 death due to oxygen shortage in Delhi, fix responsibility for the lapses, and give compensation to such families. But, the Centre, through the L-G, did not allow us to make this commitment. They just want to hide real facts. If you (Centre) have the courage to face the truth, then allow Kejriwal to form this committee and conduct an independent inquiry into each death caused due to oxygen shortage,” Sisodia said.
