‘Take Union Govt To Court’: Raut On Deaths Due To Oxygen Shortage

Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday said people whose relatives died due to oxygen shortage during the second wave of COVID-19 should “take the Union government to court”.

Raut’s comments came a day after the central government said in the Rajya Sabha that no deaths due to oxygen shortage were “specifically reported” by states and UTs.

Talking to reporters here, Raut asked what would happen to the families who had lost their loved ones due to lack of oxygen after hearing this.

“I am speechless. What would have happened to the families of those who lost their loved ones to an oxygen shortage after hearing this statement? A case should be filed against the government. They are lying,” the Shiv Sena leader said.

On Tuesday, in response to a question by Congress MP KC Venugopal whether a large number of COVID19 patients died on roads and hospitals due to acute shortage of oxygen in the second wave, Dr Bharati Praveen Pawar, Minister of State for Health told the Rajya Sabha that during the second wave of COVID-19 no deaths were reported by the States, Union Territories especially due to lack of oxygen.

In the written reply, she also stated that health is a state subject and accordingly all states, UTs report cases and deaths to the Union Health Ministry on a regular basis.
